Cabot House Gala Draws a Crowd to Benefit Affordable Housing

The staff at Portsmouth’s Cabot House are well known for their style, but they also know how to throw a party. On April 24 crowds filled its furniture showrooms for the once-a-decade gala to celebrate its 27th anniversary with a benefit that included tasty buffets from area restaurants, raffles, and giveaways.

The party raised more than $3,600 to benefit the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce and The Housing Partnership, a non-profit that seeks to create affordable housing in the greater Seacoast area. Gail Bradbard, Cabot House’s manager, says the cause is close to her heart. “Cabot House, founded in 1912, has had the privilege of being in our Portsmouth location for 27 years. Furniture, is a function in a home, and we go hand and hand with housing.” She thanks the many Seacoast businesses who made the evening a success.

Dick Ingram, The Housing Partnership’s president, says they plan to break ground on two projects this fall: 41 units of family housing in Kennebunk and 22 units of senior housing in Rye. “The community’s going to benefit,” he explains. “It won’t work if it’s only the rich and famous; you need diversity.”
