Have you ever watched Antiques Road Show and seen a hopeful person discover that his or her antique is more trash than treasure? The lamp discovered at a yard sale is not a Tiffany, and grandma’s Colonial-style side table is a reproduction, not authentic. It won’t be paying for that trip to the Bahamas or European vacation after all. 

While entertaining, the show is a reminder that the antiques world is a complex place. There is so much to learn about antiques that it would take many lifetimes to know it all. Fortunately, with the many antiques resources in our region, there are plenty of places to not only find favorite pieces but also antiques professionals to consult. These dealers know their antiques. Many have been in the business a long time and stay on top of current trends.
